Anyways, it seems that there have been a few cases of this in Canada too. Some in British Columbia (west coast) and some in Nova Scotia (east coast). Scary shit.

How many kills from regular flu?

Until it escalates the only difference between it and regular flu is that this one comes from a pig, regular Flu suppressant drugs even work on it atm, it's not a threat, It CAN become one though.

Kerwyn, it's who it's affecting not the # of deaths. Some of the antivirals work, some don't and even they are debatable. From what I've heard the flu vaccines are ineffective against this right now as well. It clearly is a concern since the CDC and the WHO have increased the warning level again for it just a few hours ago as well. I don't know if "threat" is a good word for it but it's always better to be educated and aware. I would rather have gv't and hospitals overreact to contain it rather then have it spread and everyone asking why nothing was done to protect the population.

Threat of outbreak is not an ideal moment to be stuck in chemical or institutional dependence. Institutions of any kind can be overburdened by their systems of classification. This holds the same for whether you seek out an institution of science or religion. An institution is not built to provide you specifically with what you need, but to give something general to people who are in the stages of seeking.

The US will not be closing the border to mexico... because only people who are showing symptoms need to be caught and returned. Then they can sneak back across the next day, spread the disease, and die.

I have a question about that article. Healthy can be referred to as different things. It would help to know which definition puts you in the risk category.

My definition of healthy refers to “born that way”. A common definition of healthy I often see people refer to looks closer to “modified to experience less unpleasantness”. The second definition refers to feeling less pain and less symptoms.

So my question would be: Are you more at risk for retaining the original function of your immune system functioned since birth? Or are you more at risk from having modified your immune system to experience less of the unpleasantness of symptoms?

Added: I can probably answer my own question relying on observation. It's considered the same disease affecting everybody. If those who died experienced less symptoms, the definition of healthy has been modified towards experiencing less unpleasantness. Fear, panic, fever, etc. By my definition I consider more symptoms to indicate better health.

The more symptoms you experience, the more likely you are to be defined as having natural immunity. Symptoms are based upon the immune systems awareness to what is happening to it; because they are directly the result of the immune system performing some action. Awareness frequently comes out of having previous experience dealing with something. Looking at ages, I would be guessing people demonstrating fewer symptoms to be at higher risk, and those using the second definition I gave for health.

And specifically because I don't think people will know what I mean by symptoms. I refer to emotional response in the sense that it could possibly be an anticipatory symptom created by the immune system in preparation for what it needs to do. I'm not just refering to the reactional symptoms of already being infected.

I live in New England and it isn't one of the hot spots, but still im a little nervous bout it.

a classmate of mine just came back from Mexico like 2 days after this hit the papers.
So I am a little hesitant towards going near her.

There was like, what, 140 something confirmed deaths in Mexico.
Hopefully they won't rise from their graves and feast on our brains..

I sort of agree with this, if everybody ignores it then it has the potential to be big, but if people create a fuss, and be cautious, then it will have much less potential.

Well, they redirected my grandma's cruise to Mexico now... I'm less scared than I was at first though. Remember bird flu? Remember West Nile? Remember how they said everyone was gonna die? Remember how we didn't?

Is it wrong that I kind of wish that someone at my school'd come down with the nonlethal American variety so they'd shut our school down? This is like when they canceled school because of the ash from the big fires, and we all were happy that we could stay home but felt guilty about being happy because we only got to stay home because other people's homes were burning down.

Seriously, though, I'm more worried about car accidents, at least for me and my friends. Especially since my friend's friend was just in a car accident tonight a couple hours ago and is in critical condition.
